If you are also one of them who needs a solution to this issue, we will help you overcome this situation. In this article, we will explain some of the effective ways on how to remove rust from electric kettle?

Why Does Rust Build Up Inside The Electric Kettle?

The main reason for rust build up is boiling water regularly without frequent cleaning and rinsing of the kettle. The addition of limestone in your drinks can also result in the creation of rust inside the kettle. However, you need not to hassle if such things take place there. But you have to come up with a proper solution to resolve the problem.

How To Remove Rust From Your Electric Kettle

There are a variety of options that you can opt to remove rust from your electric kettle.

Regular Cleaning

The first thing you should do for removing rust is frequent cleaning of your kettle. We always recommend cleaning your kettle everyday unless you want to see clumsy rust. For that, you can simply wash your kettle with dishwashing liquid. Then, rinse it thoroughly with hot soapy water and let it dry for a while every single day.

You can also use abrasive scrubbers to clean your kettle properly. Sometimes, the rust that forms on an electric kettle is very stubborn. In that case, only scrubbing doesn’t help you get rid of it. So you have to follow alternative ways to remove the rust.

If your kettle has enamel finish, don’t use any abrasive scrubber to avoid scratch formation.

Add Vinegar

Vinegar is arguably one of the best options to remove scale or rust from your kettle. It is relatively cheap, non-toxic and effective at the same time. Any vinegar type will work fine to clean the stubborn stains from the kettle. But we suggest you prefer white vinegar to get the best performance. In contrast, avoid using other flavorful vinegar types.

To use vinegar solution, maintain the following steps:

Step 1: Firstly, fill up the kettle with vinegar till the “maximum fill” level. Then, allow it to sit for a while. This is basically a chemical process. So you need to give it some time to chemically react with the rust. Waiting patiently for 2-3 hours would be fine. Don’t stir and scrub with anything because in the end, it won’t bring any additional benefit.

Step 2: In the next step, switch on your kettle and bring it to a boil. About 3-4 minutes is enough for the boiling process. It will be helpful to allow the liquid to swirl inside. As a result, the method will agitate the tiny particles of the rust and break them free from the kettle.

Step 3: After the boiling process, pour out the vinegar. Be careful because it is going to be hot for sure. Later, use clean water to rinse the kettle.

If you still find the spots of some rust after completing the above steps, repeat them again until you find your kettle free of rust.

Add Baking Soda

If you are not comfortable with using Vinegar, baking soda is another fine element to keep the kettle clean. Follow these steps to add baking soda:

Step 1: Initially, mix a teaspoon of baking soda in water. Then, pour the mixture into the kettle and allow it to boil.

Step 2: Let the solution soak in the kettle for around 20 minutes.

Step 3: After that, pour out the solution and rinse the inside of the kettle thoroughly with clean cold water.

Add Lemon

Don’t have either vinegar or baking soda in your kitchen? You can use lemon instead. Check out the following steps to use lemon:

Step 1: Make a lemon water solution by adding a spoon of lemon juice or a lemon squash into water. Mix it and pour into the electric kettle.

Step 2: Then, boil the mixture for around 20-30 minutes. That will allow the rust to stick off the kettle.

Step 3: Pour out the leftover water and rinse the kettle with fresh water.

Use Commercial Products

Alongside vinegar, baking soda or lemon, you have alternative options too. For example, different commercial products work well to remove rust from different kitchen tools. So you can use any commercial cleaner that is compatible with your kettle.

At first, dilute the cleaner with water and make a mixture of these two with the right proportions. Also, it would be better if you check out necessary instructions from the package. Then, allow the solution to boil in your kettle and sit patiently for some moments. At that moment, the solution will automatically work to clean the rust inside your kettle. Once the procedures are over, rinse your kettle with cold water and you will get a shiny kettle interior like a new one.

Final Words

The build up of rust isn’t something you would love to see inside of your kettle. Every time you use your kettle to drink a cup of tea or coffee, it starts to degrade. On top of that, if you avoid cleaning it regularly, the situation can be even worse.

So if you don’t want to remain concerned all the time about your kettle’s rust build up, make sure to keep your kettle always neat and clean. Take care of your electric kettle and start every morning with a refreshing hot drink.
